10 Common Travel Mistakes To Avoid
A lot of times we do not plan about the things we will need while traveling. Thus, leading us to pack unnecessary things that only add to the burden.
Moreover, huge luggage with heavy suitcases will sore your back, make your hotel room messy, and drain your energy levels. Not to forget it will make you more confused and you will have to spend more time finding out the right thing.
To avoid overpacking the first and foremost thing you must do is choose a small or medium-size suitcase. Never go for a larger or oversized one. Then, make a list of things without which your day will not go through smoothly.
Pack up the most necessary items only and then make a list of things you may think may be needful. Lastly, glance over all the stuff in your bag and remove things that may not be useful. Try to use only one suitcase or bag as more bags means more unnecessary items.
2. Not Planning A Budget
Budgeting is one of the most important things you must do before starting your journey. Poor budgeting is one of the most common travel mistakes people make. It will lead you to have less or no money at all. Further, this will curb your travel activities too.
Create a realistic budget and don’t be too harsh on yourself. No one can follow the budget completely. Thus, keep some space for unexpected expenses too. Also, look for discounts and offers beforehand to save some money.
If you are going on a long journey then scheduling a weekly budget is a good option. Moreover, keep a check on your debit card & credit card balances so that you don’t overspend.
3. No Backups For Photographs
Are you paranoid about losing your photos? I am sure most of us are. Photos are a way to revisit the memory lane later in life. Thus, we want it to be safe.
However, while traveling we tend to forget about keeping the photographs safe. Also, we collect so many photos that backing it up seems like a huge task.
Thus, it is better to store your photos on an external hard disk or google drive to avoid losing your precious memories. In fact, you can do both, save it at multiple places to keep it extra secure.
Photos are memories so make sure to avoid this mistake at any cost. Take out hard copies of the most valuable pictures as they are the best any day.
4. Flashing Valuable Items In Front Of Pickpockets
It is very easy for pickpocketers or thieves to identify their targets who are not local. So, you must keep your belongings safe and avoid flashing expensive valuables that may lure them.
losing your valuables will be the last thing you will want to deal with, right? Thus, keep your cash, electronics, or other valuables safe with you.
Try not to wear much jewelry and keep your wallet or purse hidden with you. Use colors that don’t catch the eyes quickly. In fact, if you don’t need them, don’t wear them and just enjoy exploring.
If you are carrying DSLR cameras, laptops, or any expensive or cool gadgets; keep them with you, hidden in a locked pack, and use them only when it is necessary.
5. Skipping The Local Food
Traveling is very much connected with food. If you are a foodie I am sure you will try the local food that you may not get to eat anywhere else.
However, if you are not or if you do not like experimenting with food. I would suggest for once leaving the uneasiness aside, try on the most special dishes of the place you are in.
Many of you may have a sensitive stomach or may not want to try on food fearing a taste you may not like and regret ordering. So, for that, you can ask about the ingredients in a dish.
Also, you can do a little bit of research about the most famous foods in the particular place you are visiting. This is the most common travel mistake people make and regret later. Explore food and see the magic!
6. Giving A Lot Of Your Time To Social Media
Though most of us do not think much about this but let me tell you this one of the most common mistakes people do when they travel.
Social media has become a major part of our lives these days and it is hard to stay away from it. However, I make sure I turn off the social media completely while traveling so that I can live at the moment and enjoy it to the fullest.
Spending a lot of time on your phone will cost you real fun. Thus, it is better to detach yourself from social media or I would say the phone itself.
Just use your phone for important activities. Such as clicking pictures, phone calls, or booking cabs. Other than that avoid using your cell phone and I am sure you enjoy your trip to the fullest and at peace.
7. Not Carrying A Portable Charger
Not everyone carries a camera with them. Most of us click photos with our mobiles and that takes up most of the charge from our phones. You will not get a charging point everywhere.
Thus, it is important to carry a portable charger while you are traveling. It is also essential because you will not want to see a dead mobile in case of any emergency.
What if you want to make a phone call or book a cab and you see your mobile switched off due to no charge? You will surely not want this to happen, therefore avoid the mistake of not carrying a stay healthy and fit.
8. Adding Too Many Activities To Your To-Do List
This is one of the most common mistakes that many of us have already done. Out of excitement, we plan a lot of activities to do on our trips. What happens then?
Most of the time we miss out on some crucial activities. You can never do everything in your single trip to a place. Thus, first, focus on the most unique activities of that place.
Once you are done with them you can do the other activities too. There will be many activities that may be available at your own place or other places. So keep them for later.
Focus on the unique ones that you will not get to do anywhere else. Remember not to miss on anything that you will make you regret later. Speak with the locals to know about the best things you can do there.
9. Paying A Lot In Transport
As I told you earlier to it is very easy to identify those who are not locals. In fact, for the people providing transport, it is certainly the easiest task to do.
The moment they know you are not a local they will charge you three times more than the actual price. Thus, to avoid this either book an ola, uber or ask the ongoing price to the locals around you, maybe the hotel staff.
While traveling a lot of your expense is due to transportation. Thus, it is important to avoid paying a penny more than required. Don’t let people fool you, bargain, and let them know that you know the actual fare.
10. Not Drinking Enough Water
I’ve made this mistake more than once and now I have finally realized this. Not taking enough water and on top of that roaming around places leads to dehydration and fatigue.
Drinking water is necessary every day, however, while traveling we tend to forget this a lot. Roaming around needs a lot of energy and if you don’t drink enough water you end up falling ill and losing energy.
Thus, it is important to keep drinking an adequate amount of water to stay healthy and fit while you are traveling. You don’t want to miss anything due to bad health, right?
