It was a warm Sunday afternoon and I had planned my day according to my every Sunday schedule. Sundays are super fun, we have the entire day with us to just feel ourselves and stay as we are.
So I sat with my favorite pencil and sketchbook to start drawing as that’s my favorite hobby. Whenever I get some free time I draw, it fills me with joy and makes me content.
Not Like The Usual Sundays…
Just then my mom came in and said that I had to take my younger brother to some fair that was organized by a school near my home. I knew that it was going to be boring.
I hate these school fairs. Moreover, I wanted to spend the entire Sunday with myself, doing what I loved. However, it was not what I thought, somehow the fair proved to be significant to me.
The Boring Fair…
So, as we entered the arena, there were toddlers colorfully dressed sitting with their parents. I sent my brother to interact with his friends while I was standing at the back looking after him.
After a few minutes, a teacher announced the activity for all the children who were present. Everyone was divided into groups of 10 before the activity began.
The Twist In The Boring Sunday…
Till now, everything seems normal, right? Well, nothing actually was normal there. When everyone was busy enjoying the activity I noticed a girl who caught my attention.
Her clothes wear slightly dirty, she was standing at the corner staring at other children who were extremely joyous. Looking at her I could feel what she actually wanted and I knew who she was.
She used to come to my home with her mother who used to work as a domestic help at my place, a few months back.
Just When The Sunday Became A Thoughtful Sunday…
For a second I thought that the teachers were talking about the importance of education and equality within the realm of education and here I could see a child being hesitant to enter the venue just because of the huge division in the society and the way she was always looked down upon because of her financial and social status.
I called her, she came near me hesitantly and I took her with me so that she could participate with other children in the activity.
Hanging back and with apprehensions, she went there. However, the smile and satisfaction on her face after participating could reflect all her feelings and that was the best SUNDAY for me!
Final Thought!
*How do power dynamics work in our society? Why do we always need a powerful force to achieve something; Especially the downtrodden section is more vulnerable to such experiences.*
