Productivity is a stepping stone to success. You need to be highly productive to reach heights and achieve your goals. Though most of us keep tangling on how to increase productivity.
We try to do our best but end up not completing all the tasks that are to be done. Thus, here are some strategies and habits that will help you in increasing your productivity.
1. Get Up At 5 A.M.
Successful people make it a habit to start their days early. Almost all of them are known to be early risers. Getting up early makes you more energetic and focused. Whereas, if you get up late, you will feel tired, fatigued, and lazy.
Thus, it hinders your productivity. If you get up early, you will finish your work earlier that too with the utmost efficiency. This will give you some more time in the evening where you can choose to rest or complete other tasks.
Also, rising early helps you get more time as productivity is higher in the morning compared to the night. The calmness in the morning helps you to energize your mind and body. Moreover, it prepares you for the chaotic day ahead. CLICK HERE to know more about the morning routine to make your day productive.
2. Plan Your Day The Night Before
This is one of the most important habits to increase productivity. As planning your day the night before will save your time the next morning. Moreover, you will know the basic flow and need not waste time on deciding the priorities for the day.
Also, keeping a check on the plan will keep you motivated to complete your tasks. I do this on a regular basis. Ticking the boxes after completing a task keeps me motivated to work as per the plan. It not only increases my productivity but also adds value to the day.
Moreover, when you wake up in the morning your mind already knows the plan. Thus, it gives you a kick to start your day better and keeps you organized.
3. Focus On The Most Important Task First
When you complete the most difficult or important task first; you can do the other tasks without any stress. As you are relived with the completion of the most important work.
We think that productivity means doing a lot of work each day. However, the true meaning of productivity is doing important tasks consistently. As we may want to do numerous things in a day but out of those only a few will be truly important.
Thus, doing the important tasks first will increase your productivity. Keeping it for later will give you stress and you may not be able to focus on the other tasks as well.
4. Don’t Multi-Task
If you want to be efficient you need to keep your focus in one place. Dividing your energy into different things at one time will not give you the desired results.
Doing multiple tasks at one time will leave you with incomplete work. You will not be able to finish any task efficiently. Also, being all over will increase your stress levels. Thus, your productivity will decrease drastically.
It is highly advisable to take one step at a time. Focus on one task and only after the completion of the task, take the other one. This way your productivity will increase magically. This is because all your focus will be on one task only.
5. Identify Your Road Blockers
We often focus on ‘what to do’ to reach our goals. However, we never look at the things that we should avoid. I am sure things to avoid will be more than that to do.
Make a list of the distractions that come in your way of productivity. For example social media. Make a note of it and set a particular time to use social media. Turn off your notifications the other times.
Knowing your distractions during work will surely help in boosting your productivity.
6. Write Down To Save Time
Thoughts are unstoppable. They can come anytime they want. There can be times when your brain suddenly reminds you of a small task.
For example, you had to call your sister today to discuss a party you are planning to organize. Even if you are in the middle of a work you take your phone and dial your sister’s number. Many such small tasks can come up and break the flow of your work.
Thus, whenever your mind pops up with something like this, write it down so that you can do it later. This will keep your flow of work undisrupted and increase your productivity.
7. Learn To Say No
Helping people is good but not at the cost of letting go of your work. You need to complete your work first to help others. Otherwise, your important tasks will be delayed or remain incomplete.
Taking too many responsibilities may decrease your productivity. If you are afraid of hurting the other person. You may tell them about your workload. Also, you can take up the work without any time constraint and do their work only after completing yours.
Prioritizing plays an important role in productivity. Thus, keeping your work at priority is vital to increase efficiency and manage time.
8. Maintain A Healthy Lifestyle
For a productive day, exercising in the morning should be a must. As for a healthy mind, you should have a healthy body. It may be taking a walk, running, simple stretching exercises, or yoga. 20-30 minutes of exercising will give you various physical and mental benefits.
Exercising is known to reduce fatigue, body aches, weight, protect the skin, and also improves eating habits which eventually helps in reducing stress. Therefore, it leads to increasing your productivity on a daily basis.
Also, taking proper sleep is equally important as it will keep you charged. Not getting proper sleep can hamper your immune system. Thus, making you prone to diseases and other health issues.
The mind and body are always correlated. For a healthy body, you need to focus on having a healthy mind and vice-a-versa. A lack of sleep reduces your productivity due to loss of concentration, focus, and energy.
9. Take A 10 Minutes Break After Every 90 Minutes Of Work
No one can focus for a long period. Thus, taking a calculative break in between work is important. This increases your focus, and keep you interested to work.
I started to follow this rule and it has helped me a lot. Work rigorously for straight 90 minutes and take a nice 10 minutes break. Repeat the cycle till all your tasks are completed. This will keep your energy high and thus your productivity will increase too.
10. Keep One Day Of The Week For Yourself
Breaking routine is very important. Not many people focus on taking a day completely off. A rest day makes you healthier, calmer, happier, and satisfied. You also gain better focus after a day off.
Also, it keeps your life interesting. When you look forward to the day off, you make sure all your work is completed the day before. It balances your life and keeps you at peace. Thus, all this together helps in increasing your productivity.
